Registered Energy Manager (REM) Training at CMCT

Who Must Comply?
Industries or Commercial Buildings consuming ≥ 21,600 GJ/year of energy within one year are known as Energy Consumer.
It is compulsory to appoint a Registered Energy Manager (REM) within 3 months after receiving notice from the Energy Commission (EC).

To Appoint REM Type 1
21,600 – 50,000 GJ/year
To Appoint REM Type 2
≥ 50,000 GJ/year
How to Become REM?
Step 1 – Training
- Attend REM Type 1 Training (5 days + exam)
- After passing, attend REM Type 2 Training (5 days + exam)
(Both must be from RTI approved by Energy Commission)
Step 2 – Certification Application
- Apply to Energy Commission (EC) for certification (Type 1 or Type 2).
Step 3 – Progression
- Must hold REM Type 1 certification for at least 1 year before applying for REM Type 2 certification.
Step 4 – Certificate Validity
- Training certificates for Type 1 & Type 2 are valid for 5 years.
- You can complete both courses early, then apply when eligible.
