IATF 16949 Consultancy Approach

IATF 16949 Consultancy Approach

In conjunction with ISO 9001, IATF 16949 defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products.

IATF 16949 was developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) in collaboration with ISO’s technical committee for quality management, ISO/TC 176. As a result, the standard is fully aligned with ISO 9001, while incorporating additional, industry-specific requirements tailored to the automotive sector. Engaging an experienced IATF 16949 Consultant can help organizations clearly interpret and implement these specialized requirements.

In October 2016, the IATF released the revised automotive quality management standard, officially known as “IATF 16949.” This edition replaced ISO/TS 16949:2009 and is aligned with ISO 9001:2015, ensuring consistency with the latest quality management principles for organizations operating within the automotive industry.

IATF 16949 is applicable across the entire automotive supply chain and covers organizational sites where customer-specified parts for production and/or service are manufactured. Working with a qualified IATF 16949 Consultant supports effective system deployment, documentation, and compliance across multi-site operations.

The standard focuses on establishing a robust quality management system that drives continual improvement, with strong emphasis on defect prevention, and the reduction of variation and waste throughout the automotive industry supply chain.
